Supreme Court on Friday upheld the election of Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, dismissing appeals challenging his victory.
The court’s decision upheld the electoral process despite initial challenges that led to the declaration of the state election as inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Governor Nasir Idris, who contested under the All Progressives Congress, emerged victorious in the supplementary election held on April 15, securing 409,225 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party candidate Aminu Bande’s 360,940 votes.
Despite the allegations of over-voting and challenges to Idris’s qualification, the tribunal and the court of appeal had previously affirmed the governor’s election.
The Supreme Court, in delivering its judgment, declared that the appeal lacked merit and subsequently dismissed it, along with other related appeals in the matter.
