President Bola Tinubu attended the Jumat prayer at the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos on Friday, marking his first public appearance since last week’s prayers at the Alausa Central Mosque.
During the sermon, Chief Imam of Lagos Central Mosque, Ridhwan Jamiu, addressed the congregation and praised the President for his leadership, affirming that he had not disappointed the people who supported him during his campaign.
The Imam reflected on the importance of being grateful to Allah during times of success and remaining patient in adversity, while urging the faithful to maintain strong hope and faith in all circumstances.
Imam Jamiu also acknowledged President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to the nation. He assured the President of the continued prayers and support of the Muslim community as he governs Nigeria. The Imam recalled how the Muslim community had encouraged Nigerians to vote for Tinubu during the elections, expressing pride in his leadership and confidence in his ability to steer the country toward peace, security, and prosperity.
Addressing the President directly, Imam Jamiu praised his qualities of fairness, justice, and righteousness, urging him to continue embodying these values. He reminded the President of his responsibility to the people and accountability to Allah, emphasizing that leadership is a trust that will be questioned by the Creator. The Imam also highlighted that the President bears one of the names of Prophet Muhammad, “Ahmed,” which signifies someone who does praiseworthy deeds. He expressed hope that this would continue to reflect in the President’s actions.
President Tinubu, who has been spending the festive season in Lagos, arrived in the commercial capital on December 18 after presenting the 2025 budget to the National Assembly. Following the recent tragic stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which resulted in lives lost, the President canceled public engagements, including a scheduled boat regatta in Lagos, out of respect for the victims.
On December 23, the President hosted his inaugural Presidential Media Chat at his Ikoyi residence and has been receiving private visitors as part of the Christmas and holiday festivities.
“We are proud of you. I remember that we encouraged people to vote for you during the campaigns. We thank God that you have not disappointed us.
“We know you are capable. We know you have the sagacity. We know you are competent.
” We believe and pray that you are not going to disappoint us. May Allah continue to be with you. Allah has entrusted Nigeria to you and will ask you for this trust.
“Remember accountability and responsibility to the people. Responsibility is to the people, and accountability is to Allah when you return to Him.
“Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, ‘The most beloved of all people to Allah is the righteous and just leader.’
“We have seen righteousness in you and fairness and justice in you. Please keep it up and sustain it.
“You bear one of the names of Prophet Muhammad, Ahmed, someone who does what is praiseworthy. This name has been reflected in your past actions, and we hope it will reflect in your actions now,” Imam Jamiu said.
