A lawyer identified as Oladosu Oladipo said the Independent National Electoral Commission cannot extend voter registration because of logistics.

Oladipo who is the National Co-ordinator, Yoruba Patriotic Movement made this disclosure on Tuesday during an interactive session with journalists on TVC.

Oladipo said the call for an extension of voter registrations is not possible because INEC does not have the time to begin printing new Permanent Voters Card and other materials needed to conduct voters registration.

He further added that the North-West had shown much political inclination by topping the voter’s registration chart amongst other regions of the country with 22.67million registered voters.

Nigerians on the 31st of July 2022 called for the extension of the continuous voters’ registration indefinitely, adding that most citizens due to several factors have not been able to participate in voter registration.

However, INEC in response to the call said it cannot extend continuous voter registration because the commission needs to carry out other constitutional responsibilities.

INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Barr. Festus Okoye, further disclosed that those who registered or carried out voter transfers between January and June 2022 will get their PVC in October, while those who enrolled in July would receive theirs by November 2022.

Supporting INECs stand to halt voters registration, Oladipo said, “There is a clamour for them (INEC) to extend the date of registration but the INEC has given the verdict that before they can get the PVC, the production of the PVC and other material, it will take time. The ones that have been produced, I think people should go and collect.”
