Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has promised that he would not use his privileged position to witch-hunt those who are working against his interest.
Sule made this promise while receiving the executive members of the Tsangaya Quranic Reciters, led by the Sangatin Kwandere, HRH Alhaji Ahmadu Al-Makura, in Lafia the state capital on Thursday.
According to him, someone in his position may be tempted to use the executive powers to hunt down those who are opposed to the ideals, and the interests he represents, noting that his religion is against exploring such privileges negatively.
The Governor further explained that as a Muslim, his religion frowns against abuse of such powers, adding that he is aware of the responsibilities bestowed on a leader.
Governor Sule said that he has ignored calls and pressure to deploy stringent measures against detractors and enemies of his administration because of his understanding of what Islam said about the responsibilities of a leader.
“A lot of people are saying if it’s another governor, he would have dealt with all those working against his interest.
“I am aware of the immense responsibility bestowed on a leader by Islam, and I am willing to accommodate their attitudes,” he said.
He however called on the members of the Quranic Reciters Association to include members of the opposition in their prayers, so that they would understand the need for peaceful coexistence.
The Governor expressed appreciation to the members of the association for their concern and prayers while his case was before the court of appeal.
He further urged them not to relent in their prayers even after the judgement at the Supreme Court to foster peaceful coexistence in the state.
In his part, the Sangarin Kwandere, HRH Ahmadu Al-Makura, who led the delegation, noted that the group agreed to host a series of prayers to protect the interest of the people of the state.
