Joseph Wayas Jr, son of the late former senate president, Senator Joseph Wayas, has revealed why the deceased is yet to be buried.
Wayas served as the president of the Red Chamber between 1979 and 1983, and he died in December 2021.
According to Daily Trust, it’s been gathered that the deceased is yet to be buried 14 months after his demise.
Explaining the reason for the delay, Wayas Jr, stated that funeral committee should be blamed for the delay burial of his late father.
“The funeral is not exactly in our hands but that of the funeral committee. I hear there are issues surrounding the funeral funds. And some members are said to have resigned. I cannot go back to the state governor or Federal Government now due to election issues. The governor has done well already,” he said.
However a former executive secretary of the National Planning Commission, Ntufam Ugbo, who revealed that he was no longer part of the committee, explained that the son should be held responsible as the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has released the funds for the burial.
He said, “He cannot say he does not have an explanation to give on why the funeral is delayed. He is the first son, so he should be in charge.
His position was corroborated by the Chief Media Adviser to Cross River governor, Christian Ita, who said that the state government had already released the money for the burial.
“I don’t want to get involved in the matter. Perhaps, the first son is the problem, but speak to members of the funeral committee. The governor actually released money for the burial months ago,” he said.
