Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, the running mate to Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Friday, said together with the former Anambra State governor, the nation’s educational system will be upgraded and there will be an end to strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
He stated this when he was unveiled in Abuja on Friday.
Baba-Ahmed said, “Our universities are going on strike, that is a high crime. I will do everything possible to ensure that this never happens as long as he and I are leading this country if given the opportunity come 2023.
“I cannot sleep with universities going on strike, it doesn’t add up and we will also ensure that we update the quality of the nation’s educational system.”
ASUU has been at loggerheads with the Federal Government over the years for the latter’s refusal to honour the 2009 agreement it entered with the union.
Some of the demands include reviewing the conditions of service of lecturers, revitalisation funds, amongst others.
