The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it will give an update on the terminal date for the Continuous Voter Registration after a court hearing.

INEC made this known in a statement signed by the Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had granted an interim injunction stopping INEC from ending voter registration on July 30, 2022.

The commissioner, according to Okoye, said the court has granted an accelerated hearing to the case and adjourned it to 4 July 2022.

“The matter came up on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, and based on the request of the commission, the court granted an accelerated hearing and adjourned the matter to Monday, July 4, 2022, for hearing of the substantive matter. The commission will give an update after the court hearing next week,” Okoye said.

However, the commission said voter registration would continue nationwide, noting that all Resident Electoral Commission and Electoral Officers have been directed to continue with the exercise pending further directives from the commission.
