President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria this evening from France, barring any last-minute changes.
Upon his return, he will preside over the inauguration of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria on Friday.
According to sources within the Presidency, Tinubu views the swearing-in of Justice Kekere-Ekun as “not only a constitutional obligation but also a historic responsibility.”
Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, previously announced that the President would embark on his fourth trip to France on Monday, August 19, stating: “The President will return to the country after his brief work stay in France.”
The National Judicial Council had recommended Justice Kekere-Ekun to succeed Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who is set to officially retire on Thursday, August 22.
Justice Kekere-Ekun has had a distinguished career, serving in various positions, including Senior Magistrate II, State High Court Judge, Chairman of the Robbery and Firearms Tribunal, and Justice of the Nigerian Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Nigeria.
