President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the Defence Headquarters to eliminate banditry in the North-west region by the end of 2025.
This directive was announced by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, during a gathering of All Progressives Congress supporters at his residence in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, on Saturday.
Matawalle emphasized President Tinubu’s deep concern for the security situation in the North-west, particularly in Zamfara State.
He revealed that the President has ordered the procurement of advanced military equipment, including Armoured Personnel Carriers, war planes, and other sophisticated weapons, to enhance the fight against bandits in the region.
The Minister also noted that some of the military vehicles and planes have already begun arriving in the country.
Matawalle assured the APC supporters that the federal government, under President Tinubu’s leadership, is fully committed to putting an end to the banditry crisis in the North-west.
Matawalle further urged citizens to confront the insecurity issue seriously, setting aside political differences, as bandits do not discriminate based on party affiliation. He emphasized that the fight against banditry is a national concern, and all Nigerians must unite in addressing it.
He urged the people of Zamfara to offer their continued support and prayers for the success of President Tinubu’s reform agenda, assuring them of the President’s sincere intention to improve the country for the benefit of all Nigerians.
“The issue of insecurity needs to be faced with all seriousness by all concerned citizens devoid of political affiliation as bandits have no concern whether you are APC, PDP, APGA or whatever political party you came from.
“Let me assure you that President Tinubu has good intention to turn around the country for the betterment of everything Nigerian, contrary to some myopic thinking of the opposition,” he stated.
