President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Afam Osigwe (SAN) on his election as the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Osigwe, a former general secretary of the association, won the election with over 20,000 votes, surpassing his closest contenders, Tobenna Erojikwe and Chukwuka Ikwuazom (SAN).
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended Osigwe on his emergence as the president-elect.
He said, “The President also congratulates all newly elected officers of the NBA and members of the association on a successful conduct of the elections.”
Osigwe’s victory was announced on Sunday afternoon, after an online election held between Saturday and Sunday. He defeated his closest rival, Tobenna Erojikwe, who secured 10,998 votes, while Chukwuka Ikwuazom (SAN) got 9,018 votes.
President Tinubu also commended the outgoing NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), on his stewardship of the association. He assured the new leadership of the NBA of his administration’s support in addressing challenges affecting the association and the legal profession in general.
The election marks a significant milestone for the NBA, and Osigwe’s leadership is expected to shape the association’s direction in the coming years.
