Sudan’s de facto leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has ruled out negotiations with paramilitary forces after surviving a drone attack in the eastern region.
Addressing troops at the Gibet base, he declared, “We will not retreat, we will not surrender, and we will not negotiate.”
Al-Burhan emphasized that any peace initiative must acknowledge and engage the Sudanese state, saying, “We will not lay down our guns until we clean this country of every conspirator and every rebel.”
The US has invited both parties to negotiate in Geneva next month, but Sudan’s foreign ministry says more discussions are needed before talks can proceed. Al-Burhan rejected the notion of dialogue with the Rapid Support Forces, saying, “We will win this war with our head high.”
The conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives, with estimates reaching up to 150,000, and led to severe human rights abuses and a massive displacement crisis, with over 10 million people displaced across Sudan.
