The All Progressives Congress has called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to cease blaming the APC for the challenges facing the Peoples Democratic Party.
Governor Makinde recently attributed the issues within the PDP and other opposition parties to the APC while speaking at an event in Ibadan.
In response, APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, issued a statement urging the PDP to conduct self-reflection and address its internal issues, rather than directing blame elsewhere.
“He should not point accusing fingers at APC for the rot in his party,” Morka remarked, advising Makinde to prioritize his responsibilities to the people of Oyo State.
Morka went on to say, “Makinde has become the leading but rather shoddy drummer for his 2027 political ambition. While our democracy affords Makinde the liberty to pursue his political aspirations, however, engaging in reckless executive flippancy at the expense of the job he was elected to do as governor is a disservice to the good people of Oyo State.”
He added that the PDP’s leadership should take full accountability for its internal turmoil, stating, “They should take full responsibility for their disgraceful failure to handle the party’s implosion and decay.”
Morka criticized Makinde’s alleged focus on his future political aspirations, asserting that his ambitions should not come at the expense of constructive governance in Oyo State.
“Makinde’s unhinged 2027 political ambition could not be founded upon his unguarded and unjustified attacks against the APC or the administration of President Bola Tinubu,” he stated.
He emphasized the achievements of the Tinubu administration, highlighting a trade surplus of nearly N7 billion by the end of the second quarter of 2024, due to an ambitious economic reform plan aimed at transforming the country’s economy.
“Instead of prioritising the needs of Oyo people who elected him to tackle their local issues, he has chosen to divert his attention,” Morka continued. “Makinde must know that Nigeria’s scale and complexities demand more than his vain and self-indulgent ambition.”
Morka concluded by urging Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s administration as its policies begin to show positive outcomes, saying, “He [Makinde] cannot even speak for the people of Oyo State regarding their future electoral choices or decisions, let alone speak for Nigerians.”
