A stalwart of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has criticized the Federal Government’s arbitrary arrest and intimidation of human rights activists.
He appealed to the government to redirect its focus towards revitalizing the nation’s flagging economy.
Ajadi’s statement came in response to the recent detention of African Action Congress’s Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and Nigeria Labour Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
He emphasized, “Nigerians are more concerned about the nation’s ailing economy, which has caused widespread hardship.”
Ajadi stated, “The Bola Tinubu administration’s actions will be viewed unfavorably due to these arrests. Instead of intimidation, the government should prioritize citizens’ welfare, who face unimaginable hardships.”
He highlighted the country’s economic challenges, “Exorbitant petrol prices (N1000-N1200); Skyrocketing food prices; Unimplemented minimum wage; Counterfeiting risks due to dual Naira notes; Devalued Naira exchange rate”.
Ajadi concluded, “The Nigerian government should focus on pressing issues rather than chasing shadows.”
