The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has called on the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, to thoroughly investigate the stampede that occurred in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The incident, which claimed the lives of at least thirty-two children, took place during a children’s carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Alli emphasized the need for swift action to determine the causes of the incident.
The lawmaker, who represents the Oyo South Senatorial District, made this declaration via a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday
He also urged the state government to take appropriate measures against those found responsible for the loss of lives.
In addition, Alli called for immediate medical attention for the injured and for relevant authorities to ensure that adequate care is provided to all affected by the tragedy.
“I also wish the injured a quick recovery.
“I urge relevant authorities to provide adequate medical attention to all affected.
“I urge the Oyo State Government to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragedy and take necessary actions against negligence.”
