The All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2023 Benue South Senatorial election, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, has expressed relief over the removal of Austin Agada as state chairman of the party.
Onjeh had alleged that Agada was involved in anti-party activities during the 2023 election, claiming that Agada “sabotaged my victory by allegedly working for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Abba Moro.”
Onjeh had petitioned the National Working Committee of the party, led by Abdullahi Ganduje, seeking Agada’s removal.
The allegation led to Agada’s suspension by the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, who appointed Hon. Benjamin Omale as acting chairman. However, Agada rejected his suspension, backed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
The leadership crisis was finally laid to rest on Wednesday when the national leadership of the party, led by Abdullahi Ganduje, sacked Agada and constituted a seven-member caretaker committee to be led by Benjamin Omale for six months.
Reacting to the development, Onjeh expressed delight over Agada’s removal, stating on his official Facebook page: “Though justice was delayed, it was finally served. The chairman who heartlessly sabotaged my 2023 Benue South Senatorial election has finally been booted out, seven months after I petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over his anti-party activities.”
