The Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has appointed 130 new special assistants.
The announcement was made in a post on X on Wednesday, where he stated that the appointments are effective immediately.
Among those appointed are Helen Nyekwere, Josephine Wogu, Daisy Worgu, Wagwu Hilda, Ogbonna Stella, Goodness Ogbonna, and Grace Amadi. Ihunwo urged the new appointees to serve diligently in the interest of Obio-Akpor Local Government.
This marks the second time Ihunwo has appointed over 100 special assistants, having previously made a similar move in July 2024 while serving as caretaker committee chairman of the LGA.
In his statement, Ihunwo also expressed gratitude to the leadership of Ward Six in Obio-Akpor for their continued support, noting their recent solidarity visit to the Council Secretariat.
Ihunwo, an ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, had previously removed the name of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike from the administrative block of the council secretariat, highlighting the ongoing political rivalry between Wike and Fubara in the state.
“I have appointed the following persons as my Special Assistants,” he said. “I congratulate them, and call on them to serve diligently, in the interest of Obio/Akpor local government. Their appointments takes immediate effect.”
