The Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed strong disapproval of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2025 Appropriations Bill to a three-member assembly loyal to him, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.
The matter dominated Tuesday’s plenary session, where the House’s Judicial Committee, headed by Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, presented a Court of Appeal judgment affirming the legitimacy of the Assembly and the Speakership of Martin Amaewhule.
The deputy speaker criticized the governor for failing to comply with the court’s ruling, which has caused tension within the Assembly, according to Channels TV.
Two other lawmakers also voiced their dissatisfaction with the governor’s actions. Lawmaker Smart Adoki even suggested that the judgment be forwarded to security agencies for further action.
In his address, Speaker Martin Amaewhule lamented the governor’s apparent disregard for legal authority and order.
Recall that on Monday, Governor Fubara had presented a ₦1.1 trillion budget proposal for 2025, describing it as a plan to build upon the achievements of his administration in 2024 while paving the way for sustainable development.
He highlighted the performance of the ₦800 billion 2024 budget, noting significant progress in economic growth and revenue generation for Rivers State.
