The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), threatening to arrest him if he fails to appear before the House by Friday, March 7, 2025.
This ultimatum followed a motion raised by Enemi George, the representative for Asari-Toru Constituency 2, during Wednesday’s plenary session.
The motion was prompted by the electoral chief’s failure to respond to previous summons regarding his conduct in office.
Justice Enebeli had earlier announced August 9, 2025, as the date for a fresh Local Government election in the state. This came after the Supreme Court’s ruling that annulled the October 5, 2024 local government election conducted in Rivers State.
The Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly indicated its intention to probe the actions of the RSIEC Chairman concerning the conduct of the annulled LG election. The House has expressed concerns over the transparency and legality of the electoral process.
In response to the Supreme Court ruling, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, assured the people of the state that his administration would implement the Court’s verdict after thoroughly reviewing its Certified True Copy. In a state broadcast on Sunday, Governor Fubara announced that he had met with his legal team, who are expected to obtain the CTC by Friday, March 7, 2025. He further emphasized his government’s commitment to adhering to constitutional principles and ensuring actions are taken in line with the law.
