The House of Representatives is set to begin the defence of the 2025 appropriation bill by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies on Tuesday, January 9, 2025.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Bichi, on Monday, following a strategic meeting with heads of statutory committees.
Bichi reiterated the House’s dedication to ensuring the timely passage of the budget, stating, “The House is committed to ensuring that the 2025 budget is passed before or by the end of January. We are ready to work tirelessly to achieve this goal.”
The ₦49.7 trillion budget proposal, tagged ‘The Restoration Budget: Securing Peace, Building Prosperity,’ was presented by President Bola Tinubu to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
In his 30-minute address, President Tinubu outlined the budget’s key priorities, highlighting security, defence, infrastructure, health, and education as the areas receiving the largest allocations.
“It is with great pleasure that I lay before this distinguished joint session of the National Assembly the 2025 Budget of Nigeria,” Tinubu said during the presentation.
He expressed optimism about the budget’s potential to drive growth and foster stability across the country. “This budget is a critical step towards restoring peace and building a prosperous future for all Nigerians,” he added.
The House of Representatives, through this move, underscores its commitment to collaboration and efficiency in addressing the nation’s financial and developmental needs.
