The House of Representatives has rescheduled its resumption of plenary sessions to Tuesday, February 4, 2025, delaying the date by a week from the initially planned January 28, 2025.
In a statement released on Friday, the House spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi, clarified that the postponement was to provide committees with additional time to complete crucial budget engagements and defenses with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
“The postponement is necessary to ensure committees have sufficient time to finalize ongoing budget reviews and defenses with MDAs. This measure underscores the House’s commitment to a thorough and comprehensive approach to its legislative duties,” Rotimi stated.
The new resumption date was also communicated to members of the House through an internal memo issued by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, on the directive of the House Leadership.
Rotimi assured Nigerians that the delay would enable the House to deliver a well-rounded fiscal framework for 2025, stressing its dedication to legislative duties.
“The House remains fully committed to fulfilling its legislative mandate for the benefit of Nigerians and appreciates the patience and understanding of all stakeholders,” he added.
The budget discussions involve critical deliberations with MDAs to ensure a comprehensive financial plan that addresses the nation’s needs effectively.
Stakeholders have been encouraged to continue supporting the legislative process as the House works toward achieving its objectives.
