A ranking member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has urged traders in Ekiti State to avoid unnecessary price hikes in response to the recently implemented N70,000 minimum wage for workers.
Bamisile commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for promptly fulfilling the promise of a minimum wage increase, with the new wage being paid alongside December salaries.
This move came after the Consequential Adjustment was signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While praising the governor for addressing the needs of the state’s workforce, Bamisile cautioned that any unjustified increase in commodity prices could undermine the positive impact of the wage increase, according to Independent.
He highlighted the importance of maintaining stable prices to ensure that the wage adjustment effectively alleviates the economic challenges faced by the people of Ekiti.
Bamisile also expressed his confidence that the wage increase would help support Ekiti’s economy, particularly given the state’s reliance on its civil service sector, which influences other areas such as trade and agriculture. He called on workers to support the administration with loyalty and patriotism, ensuring that the governor can deliver on his campaign promises and drive further progress for the state.
“I am specially thrilled by Governor Oyebanji quickly acceding to the request of workers on whose shoulders the economy of our dear state rests firmly.
“We run a monolithic civil service structure and whatever affects that arm will trickle down to the traders, farmers, and other sectors of the economy.
“I congratulate Governor Oyebanji and the entire workers of Ekiti State on this feat that will be a game changer in cushioning the effect of the current hard biting economic situation on the populace”.
