The Bauchi State House of Assembly has been called upon to urgently exercise its legislative powers and repeal the recently passed 2025 budget, which has already been signed into law by Governor Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir.
This request was made by the Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party in a statement issued on Monday.
The PRP, through its Secretary, Hon. Wada Abdullahi, expressed concerns over the budget, alleging that it is fraught with corruption, embezzlement, and a lack of accountability. The party called for the formulation of a new budget that is transparent, just, and based on realistic financial planning.
In its statement, the PRP also urged the people of Bauchi State to demand accountability from their leaders, emphasizing that they should not allow the state to be drained by corrupt politicians. The party called for unity among the citizens in their fight for a better future for the present and future generations.
Furthermore, the PRP condemned the 2025 budget signed by the PDP-led state government, describing it as a reflection of the party’s governance style, which they claim is marked by reckless spending, corruption, and greed. The party pointed to an allocation of N39.6 million for two motorcycles, questioning the integrity of the budget process in the state. The PRP also criticized the budget for including N4.2 million for two desktop computers, N2.45 million for two printers, and N7 million for just three photocopiers.
According to the PRP, these wasteful expenditures, totaling N53.25 million for items that could be bought at a much lower cost, are clear examples of financial mismanagement and corruption. The party argued that the budget demonstrates the government’s preference for personal gain over the needs of the people.
The PRP further expressed concern that the State House of Assembly may have failed to properly scrutinize the budget, or worse, that there may be collusion among corrupt individuals to divert public funds intended for the people of Bauchi.
The PRP alleged that the budget, “is heavily laden with corruption, embezzlement, and an utter lack of probity. We call for the development of a new budget that is genuinely transparent, just, and grounded in realistic financial planning.
“We also call on the people of Bauchi State to rise and demand accountability from their leaders. We must not allow our state to be looted dry by corrupt politicians and their accomplices. We must stand together and demand a better future for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.”
The party continued, ““The budget is a direct reflection of the party’s governance style, characterised by reckless spending, corruption, embezzlement, and greed.”
“It is appalling to see that the Bauchi State Government is prepared to spend an outrageous N39.6 million on just two motorcycles. This absurd allocation of funds, no doubt inflated well beyond market value, raises serious questions about the integrity of budgetary processes in our state.
“Further compounding this gross misallocation, the budget also includes N4.2 million for two desktop computers, N2,450,000 for two printers, and an astonishing N7 million for merely three photocopiers.
“This wasteful expenditure, totaling a staggering N53.25 million for items that can be procured for a fraction of this cost, is not just a misjudgment; it is an egregious example of the corruption and greed that has become synonymous with the PDP-led administration in Bauchi.
“Such financial imprudence is a direct reflection of how the government is being run – by prioritising personal gain over the pressing needs of the populace.
“This budget is a slap in the face of the good people of Bauchi State, who are struggling to make ends meet. It is a clear indication that the PDP-led government is more interested in lining the pockets of its cronies than in providing basic amenities and services to the people.
“We are concerned that either the State House of Assembly has not diligently scrutinised the budget or that there may be collusion among certain corrupt individuals to misappropriate resources meant for the people of Bauchi.”
