The Peoples Redemption Party, led by its national chairman, Falalu Bello, has extended its condolences to the families and communities affected by recent stampedes in Abuja, Ibadan, Oyo State, and Anambra.
The tragic incidents occurred during food distribution events and a funfair, resulting in multiple deaths.
Bello expressed the party’s heartfelt sorrow to those who lost their lives, calling attention to the disturbing reality many Nigerians face. He described the incidents as a reflection of a deeper societal crisis, underscoring the severe challenges of poverty and desperation that have gripped the nation.
PRP’s acting publicity secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, issued a statement on Sunday, linking the tragedies to the escalating hardships Nigerians are enduring. According to the statement, these incidents expose the extreme poverty and desperation caused by years of systemic misgovernance, which have only worsened the living conditions of citizens.
The statement called for serious reflection by government leaders at all levels, noting that such occurrences highlight a failure to prioritize the welfare and safety of the people amid increasingly difficult socio-economic conditions.
The party accused the federal government, particularly President Bola Tinubu, of failing to address the rising hardships that millions of Nigerians are facing, exacerbated by the removal of the fuel subsidy and other policies that have disproportionately impacted the country’s most vulnerable citizens.
PRP called on the government to take immediate and concrete action to address the root causes of these preventable tragedies. The party emphasized that this is not merely a call for better governance but a demand for the protection of human dignity and life.
The statement urged leaders to listen to the cries of the people and implement policies that prioritize the basic rights and livelihoods of Nigerians. PRP also offered its thoughts and prayers to the grieving families during this difficult time.
The statement reads,” The alarming frequency of such incidents calls for a moment of serious reflection by government at all levels.
“The happenings expose a failure to prioritize the welfare and safety of citizens amidst increasingly dire socio-economic conditions”
It therefore, accused the federal government and its leaders, particularly President Bola Tinubu of failure to address the escalating hardships that millions of Nigerians are facing, following the removal of the fuel subsidy and implementation of other policies that have impacted the most vulnerable among us.
“Such anti-people policies have plunged countless families into abject poverty, forcing them to make desperate choices just to survive.
“It is imperative that our leaders awaken from their lingering slumber and take immediate, concrete actions to address the root causes of these tragically preventable incidents. This is not just a call for better governance but a clarion call for the protection of human dignity and life.
The time has come for our leaders to listen to the cries of the people and to prioritize policy measures that uplift rather than undermine the basic rights and livelihoods of Nigerian citizens.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families who are grieving during this difficult time” said PRP .
