Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has announced a 24-hour curfew in Jos and Bukuru metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in response to incidents of looting by hoodlums.
According to a statement from the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere: “Governor Mutfwang, in consultation with state security agencies, took this decision after reviewing the actions of unscrupulous individuals who exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on innocent citizens.”
The statement added that the decision aims to “enhance security and maintain public order” in the affected areas.
Governor Mutfwang stressed that the curfew is essential for the safety and well-being of all residents, urging compliance from the public. He directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly throughout the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.
The governor also issued a stern warning to those intending to cause further harm, stating: “They would face severe legal consequences.”
He called on security agencies to “remain vigilant and proactive to prevent any disruptions to law and order.”
Expressing his gratitude to the citizens of Plateau State, particularly religious leaders, for their support of government policies, Governor Mutfwang praised their cooperation during the recent nationwide protest. He lauded the peaceful conduct of the residents and encouraged them to continue fostering peace and unity as efforts are made to build a progressive Plateau.
