The Peoples Democratic Party has reiterated its unwavering support for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, commending his loyalty and contributions to the party.
At a book launch in Wike’s honour, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP, Taofeek Arapaja, expressed admiration for Wike’s dedication, despite internal party challenges, including members with an “entitlement mentality.” Arapaja emphasized that Wike remains one of the most respected and committed leaders the PDP has ever produced.
Arapaja highlighted Wike’s long-standing loyalty, stating that he has never abandoned the PDP and has consistently supported the party’s values. He praised Wike for his advocacy for equity, justice, and fairness, particularly through his role in the G5 group, which sought reforms within the party. He also commended Wike’s ongoing support for party members, contrasting it with leaders who only engage with the party when seeking personal gains.
Arapaja also addressed recent comments from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, expressing disappointment over critical remarks directed at the PDP. He reminded Akpabio, who served as Governor of Akwa Ibom State under the PDP, of the party’s significant role in his political career. Arapaja stressed that the PDP laid the foundation for many successful political careers, including Akpabio’s, and expressed surprise at the Senate President’s negative stance towards the party.
He concluded by acknowledging Akpabio’s achievements as a governor under the PDP, reaffirming the party’s importance in shaping the nation’s political landscape.
Arapaja stated: “Our mentor and principal, who has never left PDP for a day, is one of the most committed, most loyal party leaders we have ever had. He has done well, he is doing well, and we wish him well in future endeavours.
“We know you, and we always love and appreciate you. Some people believe in entitlement mentality, but we will always stand by you because you are a man of integrity, honour, and a performer.”
“The foundation of all political parties is the PDP. I am surprised when someone who is a product of the PDP speaks negatively about it.
“Nobody can dispute the fact that the present Senate President performed during his tenure as governor under the PDP,” he added.
