The National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Ude Okoye, along with other key party figures, has paid a visit to the party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jandor, following his resignation from the party.
The visit, which took place shortly after Adediran’s departure from the PDP, was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos by Adediran’s spokesman, Mr. Gbenga Ogunleye.
Adediran, leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, announced his resignation from the PDP on Monday, citing betrayal and a lack of discipline within the party.
He stated that his decision to leave was fueled by ongoing internal issues and the party’s failure to address the crisis within the Lagos State chapter.
Just two days after his resignation, PDP leaders, including Okoye, former National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and ex-House of Representatives member Shina Peller, visited Adediran at his office in Abuja. During the visit, the party leaders urged him to reconsider his resignation and return to the PDP.
Ogunleye noted that despite Adediran’s decision to leave the party, the delegation expressed understanding of his reasons for departing and encouraged him to rejoin the PDP. “While appreciating their support, Adediran assured them of his willingness to collaborate with friends in his political journey, despite differences in political alignment,” Ogunleye said.
Adediran, who left the party with his supporters from all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State, had previously pointed to betrayal by party elders as a major factor in his departure. He also mentioned the PDP’s inability to resolve the ongoing internal issues in Lagos. Adediran has promised to reveal his next political move in the coming months.
