The Peoples Democratic Party pressure group, The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria, has raised concerns about a purported plot to attack key members of the party’s National Working Committee.
The group has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to provide urgent protection for these members, requesting adequate security measures to prevent any harm.
A statement issued by one of the group’s members from Niger State, Alaghi Aminu Gambo, revealed that the group had learned of the plot to target the NWC members. The group also urged the police to investigate the involvement of an aide to former PDP national secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, and another party member in the alleged conspiracy. The group believes the attack is being orchestrated under the direction of a senior NWC member of the PDP.
Gambo further explained that the planning for the alleged attack took place during a meeting on Tuesday in an office in Wuye, Abuja, associated with a PDP party member. He also referred to a previous incident in which the PDP Press Corps filed a petition with the police after one of their colleagues, Mr. Emma Okoronkwo, assaulted a journalist from The Sun newspaper.
In his statement, Gambo emphasized the need for immediate protection for several high-ranking NWC members, including the national treasurer, national financial secretary, national woman leader, deputy national chairman (south), new national secretary, zonal vice chairmen, and national legal adviser, all of whom are committed to the rule of law and the PDP constitution.
The group called on the police and other security agencies to ensure that these officers are protected from any potential harm or intimidation stemming from the alleged plot. Gambo insisted that the group would not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation within the party and urged the authorities to take swift action to investigate the matter and safeguard the national officers.
The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria group reiterated its commitment to upholding democratic values, transparency, and accountability within the PDP, asserting that its national officers have the right to perform their duties without fear of intimidation.
In related developments, the PDP national publicity secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, announced on Tuesday in Abuja that the party would comply with a recent Court of Appeal ruling that removed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary, replacing him with Hon. Okey Ude.
According to Gambo, “the planning of the meeting (to attack the NWC members of the PDP), took place yesterday (Tuesday) in an office in Wuye, Abuja, associated with a member of the party”.
Gambo also recalled that the PDP Press Corps has already issued a petition to the police regarding the assault on their colleague from The Sun Newspaper by the same Mr. Emma Okoronkwo.
Continuing in his statement, Gambo said, “the group is calling on the police and other security agencies to provide adequate protection for high-ranking NWC members as follows; national treasurer, national financial secretary, National woman leader, deputy national chairman (south)’ New national secretary, Zonal vice chairmen, National legal adviser, who believes in the rule of law, the PDP constitution and the Nigerian constitution.
“This protection is necessary to prevent any harm or intimidation that may arise from the alleged plot.
“We urge the police to take immediate action to investigate this matter and ensure the safety of our national officers,” said Gambo.
” We will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation within our party, and we expect the police to take our complaint seriously”, he added.
