The People’s Democratic Party Board of Trustees has urged the National Working Committee to convene an emergency National Executive Committee meeting to address the ongoing internal crisis within the party.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Board of Trustees in Abuja on Thursday chaired by Senator Adulphus Wabara, according to Channels TV.
The party has been grappling with internal conflicts, particularly regarding the tenure of acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, and issues surrounding discipline for erring members.
These divisions have resulted in factions within the party, with some members loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others backing former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
To resolve these conflicts, the Board of Trustees emphasized the importance of upholding the party’s supremacy and urged all members to submit to its disciplinary processes.
The Board had previously met with key stakeholders, including Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to discuss the party’s situation and find a way forward.
The outcome of the NEC meeting will have significant implications for the PDP’s future and its chances in the 2027 general elections.
