A pressure group within the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, “Professionals in PDP,” has called on the party’s founding fathers to intervene and prevent its decline.
The group expressed concerns over the growing influence of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and some National Working Committee members, which they believe threatens the party’s growth and success.
Chairman Sam Segun-Progress criticized the National Secretariat’s leadership, citing the cycle of suspensions and counter-suspensions as evidence of ineffective leadership. The group questioned the rationale behind the chairman and national secretary’s support for Wike in the Rivers State political crisis.
The PDP’s silence on the country’s economic situation was also criticized. The group called for the resignation of the acting Chairman and National Secretary and a complete overhaul of the current NWC.
The internal crisis has sparked concerns among party members, who fear that leadership decisions serve external interests rather than the party’s foundational principles. The group warned that inaction could lead to the party’s demise.
The PDP’s founding fathers are urged to take immediate and decisive action to restore integrity and purpose within the party. The development highlights the ongoing struggles within the opposition party.
The statement read: “The shameful activities of the acting National Chairman and the National Secretary have continued to portray the party as a mere tool in the hands of the FCT Minister.
“This sentiment reflects a growing frustration among party members who feel that leadership decisions are being made to serve external interests rather than the party’s foundational principles.
“Why is the Chairman and National Secretary against the Governor of Rivers State? Why has Damagum not signed any meaningful statement against the economic situation of the country?
” We must ask the National Chairman why he is treating the ruling party with kid gloves. Why were they in a hurry to suspend other members of the working committee? Can it be safe to say they want to strangulate the party to favour the ruling party?
“In light of these concerns, the group called on the founding fathers to take immediate and decisive action, advocating for the resignation of the acting Chairman and National Secretary, and calling for a complete overhaul of the current National Working Committee.
“If the founding fathers gloss over the recent charade of suspension and counter-suspension, then we can all kiss our party goodbye.
“It is time to call a spade a spade by kicking out all agents of the ruling party from our beloved party,” the statement concluded, underlining the group’s commitment to restoring integrity and purpose within the PDP.
