Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate freezing of all state government accounts in commercial banks.
This directive, which was made public through a statement by his spokesperson, Fred Itua, mandates full compliance from both bank officials and heads of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. Any disobedience to this order will lead to severe disciplinary action.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that no funds should be withdrawn from the government’s accounts until further notice, and MDAs are expected to ensure full adherence to this mandate.
The governor also announced the renaming of the Ministry of Roads and Bridges to its original title, the Ministry of Works. He criticized the previous administration for the impracticality of the former name, pointing out the lack of infrastructure projects such as bridges and good roads.
“It is funny how you can call a government institution the Ministry of Roads and Bridges. Ironically, not a single bridge was built by the same administration. Not even a pedestrian bridge,” Okpebholo remarked.
Additionally, the governor hinted at a forthcoming review of previous administrative actions and decisions, assuring that further steps will be taken in the state’s best interest once investigations and financial reconciliations are concluded.
