The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the Federal Government to immediately implement the new national minimum wage, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in July.
The demand comes amid widespread outrage and condemnation following the arrest of NLC President Joe Ajaero by the Department of State Services.
The NLC is urging the government to take action on the agreed-upon N70,000 minimum wage, which was signed into law nearly two months ago, according to Politics Nigeria.
The union’s call for implementation is seen as a test of the government’s commitment to workers’ rights and its willingness to uphold the law.
The NLC has vowed to continue pushing for the rights of workers and has demanded the immediate release of its president.
the NLC declared, “Implement The New National Minimum Wage Now!!! We cannot be Silenced …. Release NLC President Now!”
