The Nigeria Immigration Service officially named its newly inaugurated state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre after President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday.
The announcement was made by Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller General of NIS, during the centre’s unveiling in Abuja.
The facility, described as the first of its kind in Africa, is a multi-functional complex designed to enhance Nigeria’s immigration and border management capabilities. It houses several key components, including a Command-and-Control Centre for Regular Migration, the NIS Data Centre, a Visa Approval Centre, and a 0.5KW solar power plant, among others.
Nandap explained that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC) would be instrumental in assessing the risk levels of individuals entering the country. The centre is also equipped to detect irregular migration patterns and monitor unmanned borders, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas across Nigeria.
The inauguration of BATTIC marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation, particularly in modernizing the nation’s immigration infrastructure. Nandap highlighted that the centre would play a crucial role in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders, managing migration, and strengthening national security. She emphasized the importance of BATTIC in ensuring the integrity and accountability of individuals entering the country.
The new facility is a clear reflection of Nigeria’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology to address the challenges of migration and enhance the country’s security landscape.
“It is both an honour and a privilege to stand before you today, as we mark a momentous occasion in the history of the Nigeria Immigration Service and, indeed, in the development of our great nation.
“BATTIC is designed to manage and analyse varying levels of data efficiently, using state-of-the-art technology.
“This cutting-edge facility is a true testament to Nigeria’s forward-thinking approach to digital transformation and national security.
“BATTIC is a bold step in modernising our immigration infrastructure, and a powerful tool in our ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s borders, manage migration effectively, and enhance national security,” she said.
She continued, “Additionally, BATTIC is a multi-faceted complex comprising several critical components that will play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s security and migration management.
” Each of these components has been meticulously designed to meet international standards, ensuring that Nigeria not only catches up with global trends but becomes a leader in the management of migration data.
“With BATTIC, we are setting a new benchmark in the use of technology to protect our borders and enhance national security.
“At the heart of BATTIC’s mission is its ability to manage and analyse varying levels of data efficiently, using state-of-the-art technology.
““In essence, BATTIC will serve as the central hub for our digital infrastructure, dramatically enhancing our surveillance capabilities, streamlining migration management, and strengthening our national security framework.”
