As the contest to become the speaker of The Federal House of Representatives get hotter, the current speaker of the house, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, has come to reveal his stand on the speakership tussle at the green chamber.
The Honorable, representing the Surulere federal constituency at the green chamber, rebutted a claim that he is working to bobby Tajudeen Abbas for the speakership position of the house.
The news of Hon Gbajabiamila striving to help Mr. Abbas win the position, against his deputy, Idris Wase, and other candidates, was all over the media, recently.
However, Gbajabiamila on Thursday, cleared the air on the matter, through a tweet.
Gbajabiamila rebutted the claim made in the newspaper, adding that he had advised all the contenders to shelve all their plans until the APC made a zoning decision.
Adding that he is a beneficiary of the zoning consensus in 2019, the lawmaker clearly stated that he would not do anything against the party supremacy.
“Today, April 13, 2023, a national daily carried a cover story in which it reported that I was against the aspiration of my deputy, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, and some other aspirants to the office of Speaker in the 10th House. I have not declared support for any of my colleagues who have declared their interest.
“I have made my position abundantly clear that there is a need to wait for the Party to complete its zoning exercise as I cannot work against my Party’s interest and position. I am a product of APC’s zoning in 2019, and I shall adhere to that any time the party comes up with its arrangement. Anyone/media peddling rumors of my endorsement of any of the aspirants should desist forthwith,” he tweeted
However, some of the lawmakers lobbying for the position are the Deputy Speaker of the House, Idris Wase (APC, Plateau), Yusuf Gagdi (APC, Plateau), Muktar Betara (APC, Borno), Abubakar Makki (APC Jigawa state), Tunji Olawuyi (APC Kwara state), Ben Kalu (APC, Abia) and Sada Soli (APC, Katsina state).
