Former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said that the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Father Ejike Mbaka, remains his priest and father in faith.
Obi, in an interview on the Voice of the People 90.3 FM on Sunday, “For me, Father Mbaka is an ordained priest of God and as a priest, he remains my priest. I will always respect and show my allegiance to the church. Whatever he says, I will take it because he’s my father in faith. I respect him and he’s my brother.”
Mbaka had last Wednesday labelled Obi a stingy man, who can never become Nigeria’s president.
“This hunger that is disturbing people and you said you want him? A stingy man, that cannot give people his money. You want to die of hunger?
“It is now that Atiku (Abubakar) is contesting for president. Now that he is contesting without Peter Obi, it is now that he is serious. We want somebody that is serious. Unless Peter Obi comes here to kneel, if he becomes President, I will close down this ministry. He is going nowhere, “Mr Mbaka said.
Reacting to Mbaka’s remark, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu in a statement, accused Mbaka of breaching canon 220 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, which prohibits anyone from illegitimately harming the good name of a person.
Mbaka later apologised to Obi and his supporters, saying he meant no harm but the Catholic authorities barred congregants from worshipping at Mbaka’s church.
