Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has formally presented the certificate of office to the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, officially marking his ascension to the revered throne.
The symbolic event took place on Monday at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, in the presence of dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and jubilant indigenes of Oyo.
While presenting the certificate, Governor Makinde praised Oba Owoade as a monarch capable of upholding the rich cultural and historical legacy of the Oyo Kingdom.
“The Alaafin of Oyo is not just a traditional ruler but a custodian of rich history and tradition,” the governor remarked. He also expressed confidence that Oba Owoade would lead with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to the unity and progress of the kingdom.
In his address, the newly crowned Alaafin, Oba Owoade, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Oyo, pledging to prioritise the kingdom’s development and the welfare of its residents.
Oba Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, whose reign spanned five decades, leaving a lasting legacy in the annals of the Oyo Kingdom.
