A federal lawmaker, Hon. Sulaiman Gumi, has urged the Federal Government to revoke the private airstrip license granted to Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith Church, citing national security concerns.
Gumi raised the motion during the House of Representatives plenary session, warning about the risks associated with private airstrips.
He emphasized their potential use for illegal activities, such as arms and drug trafficking, according to Politics Nigeria.
The lawmaker referenced a past incident involving a prominent religious leader and a jet linked to suspicious activities.
This, he said, highlights the need for stringent measures to control private airstrips amid Nigeria’s current security challenges.
In response, the House directed its Committees on Aviation and Legislative Compliance to ensure proper oversight of airstrip licenses. This move aims to address concerns about national security and prevent potential misuse of private airstrips.
