The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has prevented the removal of Alimosho Local Government Chairman, Jelili Suleimon, despite lawmakers’ calls for his suspension or removal due to alleged disobedience to the House’s resolutions.
Suleimon had suggested removal or suspension after Jelili allegedly disrespected the House and refused to obey its resolutions concerning toll collections in Iyana-Ipaja, Alimosho, according to Independent.
A two-month investigation by the Assembly found Jelili to be the cause of the mayhem, and he was directed to return toll collection rights to Abiodun Ejigbadero.
However, the council secretary, Dare Ogunkoya, wrote to the House stating that the chairman could not obey the resolutions, sparking outrage among lawmakers.
Speaker Obasa intervened, directing the Clerk to resend the resolutions to the council chairman and other officials, giving Jelili the benefit of doubt since the letter was not written by him directly.
According to Okanlawon, Jelili had remained “defiant and, to say the least, this is an affront against the House that had resolved the issue.”
Deputy Majority Leader Adedamola Kasunmu told his colleagues, “I can attest to his (Jelili’s) stubbornness. He has shown incompetence and irresponsibility. For us to avert further loss of lives, it is good that he is either immediately removed or suspended.”
