The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared that he has resumed his position as head of the parliament despite his removal.
According to The PUNCH, Obasa made the declaration on Thursday after arriving at the Assembly complex for the first time since his impeachment on January 13, 2025.
His return was accompanied by heavily armed security operatives, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.
Obasa insisted that he remains the legitimate Speaker of the House.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa declared.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Mojisola Meranda, Segun Ajiboye, confirmed Obasa’s presence in a brief statement, alleging that he and his team forcibly entered the Speaker’s office.
“They broke into the office,” Ajiboye stated.
A source within Obasa’s camp also verified the development, saying, “We’re at the assembly now.”
