The crisis within the Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has taken a turn for the worse with the emergence of a new faction led by Senator Yakubu Lado.
On Friday, this faction inaugurated Alhaji Nura Amadi Kurfi as the new chairman, along with other officials, at the PDP state secretariat in Katsina.
Kurfi expressed gratitude to the national PDP leadership and Senator Lado for securing the party’s victory in Katsina State during the 2023 general elections. He emphasized the importance of unity, law and order, internal democracy, and a fair playing field for the 2027 elections.
However, this development comes on the heels of another faction, led by Mustapha Inuwa, seeking legal action due to alleged exclusion of its members from the state congresses. Inuwa’s faction claims that the party’s rules were violated, and they were denied participation in the election process.
A member of Inuwa’s faction, Arc Ahmed Aminu Yar’Adua, alleged that the state PDP leadership refused to sell nomination forms to their supporters, despite collecting over N97 million from more than 7,000 eligible members.
Yar’Adua stated that they reported the situation to the PDP national headquarters in Abuja but received no response, prompting them to file a lawsuit.
The Katsina State PDP leadership has denied these allegations, with acting Deputy Chairman Tijjani Umar claiming that the party has not received any court injunction preventing them from conducting the elections.
