The self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafran Republic Government in Exile, Simon Ekpa, has issued a stern warning to governors and political leaders in the South-East region.
He has cautioned them against engaging in negotiations with the Nigerian government for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ekpa asserted that only the BRGIE has the legitimate authority to negotiate on behalf of Kanu and the Biafran people.
He took to X to claim that others lack the mandate to speak for them and warned against any attempts to do so.
Ekpa’s warning comes in response to recent efforts by South-East governors, lawmakers, and other groups to secure Kanu’s release.
He has accused these individuals of lacking legitimacy and sabotaging the Biafran liberation movement.
The BRGIE leader emphasized that his organization is the only legitimate entity authorized to negotiate with the Nigerian government on behalf of the Biafran people.
He warned that any attempts by others to do so would be rejected.
This development highlights the ongoing tensions and divisions within the Biafran movement, with different factions and leaders vying for legitimacy and influence.
He wrote: “Those selfish politicians and traditional rulers who are now jumping up and shouting negotiation with Nigeria after sabotaging the Biafra liberation are warned never to speak again,” he wrote.
“The warning will not come again; none of you have the mandate to speak for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or Biafrans.
“We will not allow anyone to negotiate anything from Sunday night.
“The Biafra Republic Government In Exile remains the only legitimate entity to do that. Those selfish individuals now taking center stage and shouting negotiations should stay away. Biafrans are not joking.”
