Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has said he feels justified following his victory at the Supreme Court.
The apex court on Friday had upheld the election of Yusuf as the substantive governor of the state, following the appeal by the All Progressive Congress and its candidate, Nasir Gawuna, which sought to nullify his election.
Yusuf, who contested under the New Nigeria People’s Party, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission but the APC challenged his victory in court.
Speaking with news en after the judgement, he said, “I felt extremely happy with the judgement of the Supreme Court that took place today, 12th of January 2024. I feel extremely happy, As you can see, so many people are happy, they are cheering, so i feel happy.
Speaking concerning the issue of the illegality of ballot papers that made the Appellate Court disqualify him earlier, he stated, “The Supreme Court has confirmed that there is no illegality as far as the election is concerned. They were saying illegal ballot papers. INEC had confirmed that the ballot papers belonged to them, they were issued by them and the Supreme Court Justices has just confirmed also that there was no illegality. So, people are aware and I feel justified, I feel that issue has been set aside because there was no justification whatsoever in it.
When asked what his message was to the people of Kano, he said, “My good people, the first thing is to say a big thank you to everybody for all the support, the prayers they have been rendering for the last seven months of administration and not only Kano people but the entire good people of Nigeria as well as other good people across the globe, so I just want to say a big thank you to everybody.”
