Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has appointed Shehu Wada Sagagi, his recently sacked Chief of Staff, as the Secretary of the Kano State Shura Council.
This appointment follows Sagagi’s removal from office on Thursday, alongside the Secretary to the State Government and five commissioners, after which the Chief of Staff position was abolished.
In a related development, the governor named Professor Shehu Galadanci as the chairman of the newly-formed 46-member Shura Council, with Professor Muhammad Sani Zahraddeen appointed as vice chairman.
The Shura Council, which serves as a socio-religious advisory body, is tasked with promoting peace, unity, and development throughout Kano State.
The council includes several notable members, including prominent Islamic scholars and community leaders such as Sheikh Abdulwahhab Abdallah, Sheikh Karibullah Nasiru Kabara, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, and Sheikh Tijjani Bala Kalarawi. According to a statement by Governor Yusuf’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature, the Shura Council is composed of respected academics, renowned Islamic scholars, and distinguished community leaders.
The council’s primary role is to provide expert advice on key socio-economic and religious matters, ensuring that the government is well-informed in its decision-making processes. Other key members of the council include Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Professor Salisu Shehu, Dr. Muhammad Borodo, and Khalifa Hassan Kafinga.
Sagagi, as the Secretary and Head of Secretariat, will oversee the operations of the council, ensuring its smooth coordination and efficiency. Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in the council members’ qualifications and commitment to their mandate, emphasizing that the initiative reflects his dedication to inclusive governance and respect for the cultural and religious institutions of Kano State. The governor congratulated the chairman and all members, urging them to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
“Prominent members also include Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Professor Salisu Shehu, Dr. Muhammad Borodo, and Khalifa Hassan Kafinga, among others.
“The council’s Secretary and Head of Secretariat, Gani Shehu Wada Sagagi, will oversee its operations to ensure efficiency and smooth coordination.
“This initiative, aimed at fostering collaboration between the government and diverse stakeholders, reflects Governor Yusuf’s commitment to inclusive governance and respect for Kano’s cultural and religious institutions,” the statement said.
