The Kaduna State Committee on Food and Nutrition has vowed to push for increased allocations for ministries, departments, and agencies in the 2025 budget.
This move aims to empower these agencies to tackle malnutrition, particularly in areas lacking budgetary provisions for nutrition activities.
Chairman Bashir Muhammad made this announcement during the committee’s second-quarter review and coordination meeting.
The event, supported by global nutrition initiative ‘Alive & Thrive’, brought together stakeholders to discuss strategies for combating malnutrition.
Key discussion points included updates on nutrition interventions, the importance of multi-micronutrient supplements, and fostering partnerships to scale up nutrition initiatives. The committee also evaluated the effectiveness of current efforts through performance management appraisal.
Malnutrition remains a pressing concern in Kaduna State, with issues such as stunting and wasting requiring urgent attention. To bolster their efforts, the committee plans to expand its membership to include additional agencies, such as the Livestock Regulatory Commission.
This move demonstrates the committee’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of women, children, and adolescents in Kaduna State. By securing increased funding and collaboration, the committee aims to make meaningful progress in the fight against malnutrition.
“We will make those provisions in the nutrition line for MDAs so that for 2025, they can address malnutrition using their budget,” he said.
