Chairman of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State, Mr. Chijioke Ezugwu, on Wednesday gave marching orders to security chiefs in the area to tackle insecurity decisively and restore lasting peace.
During the handover ceremony by the Head of Personnel of the council, Mr. Ugwueke, at the Secretariat, Umulokpa, Ezugwu vowed that insecurity plaguing the area would soon be a thing of the past.
“I will work to end insecurity in our area. That is why I am pledging to address the security challenges confronting the council and provide transformative leadership in the council,” Ezugwu said.
He further emphasized, “I am charging all the security chiefs in the area to wake up to the challenges ahead and make me proud before our governor, who mandated us to do our best for our teeming masses.”
Ezugwu addressed top security chiefs in attendance, including the Police Area Commander, Nsukka, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Divisional Police Officer, Umulokpa, DSP Eze Friday, DPO Adani, Patrick Anike, NSCDC Command, and Army representatives.
Though acknowledging the task’s daunting nature, Ezugwu urged the security chiefs to tackle insecurity head-on and without delay.
In addition to addressing security concerns, Ezugwu inaugurated the council’s Legislative arm. Councillors across the 17 LGAs unanimously elected their leadership, with Christian Nwabueze, representing Ogurugu ward, emerging as Leader of the House, and Okafor Joakin, representing Ukpata ward, clinching the Deputy leadership of the legislative Council.
The LG boss was received by civil servants of the council, led by the Chairman, National Union of Local Government Employees in the council, Festus Okeagu, and the state executive of NULGE, Raphael Eze.
Ezugwu rallied support from council workers to achieve his administration’s developmental goals, aligned with Governor Peter Mbah’s development agenda.
Addressing the gathering, Ezugwu said, “I thank God Almighty for giving me the privilege to serve the local council, while assuring them that he would work in synergy with the council workers to ensure security of the LGA.”
