There was confusion at the Senate on Thursday as the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, ordered the lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to leave the Red Chamber.
The commotion began over the seating arrangement of lawmakers in the Upper Chamber. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat was relocated, but the Kogi lawmaker refused to comply with the revised seating arrangement as approved by the Senate President.
During the incident, the Senate’s Chief Whip, Ali Monguno, pointed out Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “improper seating position” to Akpabio. This occurred after Monguno had concluded a point of order, at which point the Kogi senator raised her voice to challenge the decision.
As tensions escalated, the sergeant-at-arms moved in to remove Akpoti-Uduaghan from the plenary. A video circulating on social media shows the lawmaker still voicing her objections while surrounded by security personnel, who attempted to calm her down.
“I don’t care if I am silenced. I am not afraid of you. You have denied me my privilege,” she declared.
