Leader of the United Kingdom Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has revealed that she no longer believes in God.
The statement was made during a recent appearance on a podcast hosted by Bari Weiss, editor of the Free Press.
Badenoch, known for her outspoken views, clarified that while she no longer holds a belief in God, she does not identify as an atheist but rather as an agnostic. She further described herself as a “cultural Christian.”
“I don’t believe in God anymore. But I am not an atheist, I am agnostic. I used to believe in God very much but now I describe myself as a cultural Christian,” Badenoch stated.
She added, “I don’t think it matters if people believe in God or not. What matters is what they do with the belief or the lack of it.”
The politician also shared her contrasting experiences with law enforcement in Nigeria and the UK. Reflecting on her past encounters, Badenoch accused the Nigerian police of engaging in corrupt practices, recounting an incident involving her brother.
“The police in Nigeria will rob us,” she said, eliciting laughter. “When people say I have this bad experience with the police because I’m black, I say well… I remember the police stole my brother’s shoe and his watch.”
In contrast, Badenoch expressed trust in the UK police, highlighting her positive interactions with law enforcement in Britain. “I do [trust the UK police]. My experience with the Nigeria Police was very negative. Coming to the UK, my experience with the British Police was very positive,” she explained.
