Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has recounted how he found a dead bat on his bed before he was declared the winner of the September 21 governorship election.
During a thanksgiving service on Wednesday night at the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the governor said the dead bat affirmed his belief that was protecting him.
Okpebholo expressed gratitude for what he described as divine intervention, attributing his victory to his reliance on God rather than political maneuvering.
Reflecting on the election period, he said, “I want to thank God. In this last election, while I was praising God, they (traducers) were busy operating from Arise. They were busy operating from Facebook. They were busy operating from Channels.”
He explained that while critics and opponents engaged in media strategies, he chose to focus on his faith, taking “the battle to God.”
According to Okpebholo, my commitment to prayer and praise was misunderstood by some people who questioned my approach.
But he felt vindicated by his victory, saying, “I was listening to the voice of God. I won the battle.”
Recounting the discovery that took place the Sunday after the election, Okpebholo said, “I came to my room. I found a bat had died on my bed, without me shooting any arrow. But the spirit of God was there. The arrow of God; the hand of God delivered me.”
The governor also emphasized that he did not seek assistance from any native doctors, prophets, or traditional healers, relying solely on his faith throughout the election period.
He encouraged others to put their trust in God, saying, “I am grateful to the men of God that stood in the gap… trust in God alone because he will do it for you.”
