Hope Uzodinma has been sworn in for a second term as the governor. The inauguration took place on Monday, with Uzodinma taking the oath of allegiance, pledging to govern in accordance with the state constitution.
During the swearing-in, Governor Uzodinma expressed his commitment to upholding the principles and provisions outlined in the constitution, emphasizing his dedication to the service of the people of Imo State.
Following the oath-taking, Uzodinma conducted an inspection of the guard of honor, symbolizing the commencement of his second term in office.
In attendance at the inauguration was President Bola Tinubu, who arrived in Owerri around 1:00 pm to witness the swearing-in ceremony.
Prior to the event, President Tinubu participated in a wreath-laying ceremony as part of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities.
Governor Uzodinma and other notable government officials from Imo State warmly welcomed President Tinubu at the airport, marking a significant moment in the inauguration proceedings.
The electoral commission, INEC, had in November last year declared Governor Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Imo State.
The INEC Returning Officer, Abayomi Sunday, vice chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, declared the winner Sunday morning at the state collation centre in Owerri.
Mr Sunday said the APC candidate scored 540,308 votes to defeat his closest challenger of the Peoples Democratic Party Samuel Anyanwu, who scored 71,503 votes while the Labour Party candidate, Athan Achonu, came third with 64,081 votes. None of the other 15 candidates had up to 10,000 votes.
