There is a significant security presence at the National Assembly complex as President Ahmed Tinubu prepares to present the 2025 budget to a joint session of lawmakers.
By 8:00 am, senators and members of the House of Representatives were seen arriving at the Green Chamber, where the joint session is scheduled to take place.
The Federal Executive Council had earlier approved an estimated expenditure of N47.96 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year during its meeting on Monday.
To ensure security during the presentation, reinforcements from various security agencies have been deployed around the National Assembly complex. Additionally, the management has ordered the suspension of all commercial activities, including banks and food vendors operating within the premises, for the day.
Visitors and nonessential staff members have been instructed to stay away from the complex until the budget presentation concludes. Only essential staff members with proper accreditation are permitted to report to work, while a limited number of reporters have been granted access to cover the event.
The joint session will be presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen. This annual presentation marks a critical step in the legislative process, setting the tone for Nigeria’s fiscal policy in the coming year.
