President Bola Tinubu, in his first media chat on Monday, urged Nigerians to remain patient and work together with his administration, emphasizing that he has only been in office for 18 months.
Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence in the country’s future, stressing that the focus would remain on progress and self-belief.
The president acknowledged the promises made when he assumed office but reiterated that achieving meaningful progress takes time. He noted that 2025 holds significant promise for the nation.
On economic matters, President Tinubu confirmed that the tax reforms bill before the National Assembly would be implemented as part of his government’s efforts to overhaul the economy. He emphasized the need to modernize Nigeria’s economic systems and affirmed his commitment to driving the necessary changes. The president highlighted the importance of focusing on what the country truly needs for growth and development.
Addressing the issue of inflation, currently at 34 percent, the president assured Nigerians that it would decrease to 10 percent as projected in the 2025 budget. He also outlined plans to improve security, enabling people to return to their farms, produce more food, and boost the manufacturing and procurement of essential goods, including medicines.
While acknowledging the economic challenges faced by the country, President Tinubu remained optimistic that Nigeria is on the right path. He emphasized that while the journey ahead may not be perfect for everyone, there is a new dawn on the horizon.
The president expressed his gratitude to Nigerians for their trust in his leadership, assuring them that he would continue to serve with dedication and seek their cooperation throughout his tenure.
“It is just 18 months I’ve taken the reign. 2025 is a very promising year,” Mr Tinubu stressed despite promising to hit the ground running upon assumption of power.
“We cannot continue to do what we were doing yesteryears in today’s economy. We cannot retool this economy with the old groping bolts. I believe I have that capacity. I am focused on what Nigeria needs and what I must do for Nigerians.
“It will not be Eldorado for everybody, but a new dawn is here. I am convinced, and you should be convinced too.
“I’m very proud of that. I don’t want you to think that I will take it for granted at any given time. It is all about service.
“I will do it with all my heart. I seek your cooperation all the time,” Tinubu added.
